Apple – Is it a bird, is it a plane, is it a… Tablet?

Interestingly Jason Calacanis (@Jason) has broke today he has been a beta Apple Tablet tester. And before you laugh this off, the guy is the founder of some off the biggest tech stuff out there including Weblogs, TechCrunch50 and Engadget. Although he hasn’t put up any pic’s he is reporting;

  • Two sizes. one about double the size of an iPhone and one is 20% smaller than a Macbook air
  • Wireless charging using optional base station
  • Facial Recognition (really?!)
  • Multiple tablet connections via Wi-Fi

FireFox 3.6 Officially Released

At last FireFox has dropped the beta tag from 3.6 and you can no download the latest incarnation of the worlds ‘favourite’ browser from .

Amongst the new heap of features are;

  • Personas – Which are basically themes
  • Improved Rendering speed
  • Improved Javascript support
  • HTML5 video support

Nokia Sat-Nav. Ovi-Maps with turn by turn Navigation is now free

Rumours were confirmed today that Nokia has opened up it’s Ovi-Maps to it’s users for free. Ovi-Maps includes voice direction, traffic information, speed camera and limit warnings (the last few only available in certain countries). And if you are on foot you can also expect guided shortcuts through parks etc. in certain cities.

Bearing in mind it is only available on a few select Nokia devices, you may be thinking ‘this is nothing compared to Google’. Well you will be pleased to know it works offline too, which should help on data charges, battery life etc.

Devices Ovi-Maps is currently available on includes; N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6. With the N97 coming next week (we hope!)

U2 Live on YouTube

YouTube are going to stream their first ever live show this weekend when U2 continue their world domination by again hitting the headlines.

The concert in Pasadena Rose Bowl in California, is a 96 thousand sell-out and will now be streamed to millions of viewers worldwide. And in true web fashion, viewers will also be able to chat in realtime about the concert using the micro-blogging sensation twitter. England Match to be Internet Only

Well it seems the Setanta fall-out continues. It has now been confirmed that England’s next World Cup qualifier in Ukraine, this coming Saturday will be shown exclusively live on the internet who will have to pay for the privilege.

This is the first time an England match has not been available on television. Originally Setanta held the rights in the UK but after it’s demise a few months ago, none of the major stations were willing to pay the amount asked by Kentaro in the Ukraine. And digital sport firm, Perform bought the rights to stream the match online.

Adobe Flash coming to Smartphones

At last, it seems that flash is coming to your mobile. Although apps allow you to watch youtube movies and the like, flash is currently not available for your normal smartphone browser to view other video sites, ads etc.

Well Adobe has just announced that a full version of flash will be hitting mobile devices soon. Starting with Windows Mobile and Palm Pre, then Symbian and Android and closely followed by Blackberry. Music Videos Return to UK Youtube

Good news! Music videos are finally returning to UK users of Youtube!

Youtube blocked thousands of music videos to UK users way back in March over a failed agreement with songwriters’ group PRS for Music. However all that looks to be behind us now after Google agreed to pay a lump sum to PRS, backdated until January and lasting until 2012.

UK ISP Disconnecting Customers for Illegal File Sharing

Hull based, UK ISP (internet Service Provider) Karoo has taken a new, tough stance by dis-connecting suspected illegal file sharers without warning. Customers can have their service restored by signing a decleration promising not to repeat the offense.

This new move has been supported by the music and film industry, many technology insiders have deemed the move ‘unfair’ and ‘harsh’. Karoo however maintains it’s stance is the “the responsible approach”.

Free Microsoft Office Online

Microsoft is yet again going head to head with online supremo Google, by announcing a free web-based version of its Office software. Reversed from last week where Google announced details of their new Chrome OS, and the month before that when Microsoft re branded it’s search to Bing.

‘Office 2010′ will include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote when it is released next year, albeit lighter versions that the desktop variants. The move is seen as a direct competitor to ‘Google Docs‘, which since it’s launch nearly three years ago has taken a considerable amount of usual Microsoft revenue.
