Microsoft and Nokia open new 'Apps' Store

Following on the success of Apples AppStore over the past few years, the long awaited announcements of Microsofts ‘Windows Phones’ and Nokia’s ‘Ovi store’ will be opened this year. Ovi in May time, and Windows Phones in the last quarter of 2009 (hopefully long enough so they can think of a more original name!).

Expect similar announcements from Blackberry, Samsung and Orange at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week which expects almost 50,000 visitors

Like Apple, Nokia will take a 30% cut of profits from selling applications, and has already partnered with a number of firms to provide content, including EA games, Facebook, MySpace, and Lonely Planet.
Nokia will also change their content based on a users location and other information.
