New England Football Shirt

It seems our beloved national team that we just love to hate are putting the finishing touches to their new football strip. Leaked on the internet this morning the new strip comes just 6 months after the ill fated new red strip which the England boys wore so ‘successfully’ in South Africa.

Let’s be honest, the strip looks pretty good, you could argue about those gay stars on the read of the shirt, but it is nicely fitted (unless your a fat fucker like us… Mik) after being designed by Peter Saville but it has sparked criticism by fans who question the timing. With confidence in the England team, set-up and manager at an all time low it does seem a little of a strange decision, but I guess new start and all that and the FA want to start on the right foot…

Is that also a couple of new players I see in the line-up…? Not seen those before… ;-)

So what do you think? As Brits we love to hate our national teams as soon as things go badly, isn’t it about time we got behind them and supported them to the full? They are talented, and they can win things on their day… Thoughts?

A couple of points about the new England kit:

    1) I like the fact that Umbro have brought back the royal blue shorts – a la the brilliant Admiral kits of the 80′s.

    2) I don’t like the collar buttons extending half-way down the chest – it just looks daft & isn’t needed.

    3) The multi-coloured stars on the shoulders are quite simply outrageous. It is said that “the idea being that
they represent inclusive modern England”. Fuck. Off. This is our national teams’ shirt for crying out loud. Leave the PC bullshit to the readers of the Guardian thank you very much & do not tarnish our national football shirt with this crap. Why do they deem it acceptable to do that, yet the star we earned for winning the World Cup is hidden, almost as if we are ashamed of it? It is infuriating. Besides, as soon as you change the colour of the cross, it ceases to have anything to do with St. George. Do other countries give 2 shits about their multi-cultural society and advertise the fact gayly on their shirts? Do they bollocks.

    4) Almost as if to emphasise the ‘gayness’ of the home shirt, the GK kit has pink trim. The designers can call it ‘purple’ until the cows come home. It’s pink – end of. Please go back to the traditional yellow GK shirt with black shorts & black socks. Simple & classy.

    5) With the multi-coloured stars running right across the shoulders on the top 3rd at the top of the back, has the designer thought about how it will look with the players’ names over it? Tacky.

With the current deserved hostility towards the England team following their shambolic World Cup, do the FA really expect us fans to pay ÂŁ50+ for this PC Piece of Crap just 18 months after brining out the current shirt? If they do they’re idiots.

It proves just how out of touch with the real fan the entire football world is. It isn’t the rose-tinted sickly-sweet image of families with face-painted, flag-waving kiddies. For the life of me, I just can’t see beer-bellied blokes wearing this down the pub, getting beered-up & watching the match. & that, dear FA, is 90% of your supporters.

I will give this 2/10 – the only marks being awarded for the return to royal blue shorts as – from a distance – the kit looks ok. But up close with those gay stars…..
