SLS AMG – The new Mercedes Benz Super Car

Well the it seems the wolf has shed it’s cloak, and if I am honest I wish he would have kept it on… Mercedes have unveiled there eagerly awaited supercar, the successor to the 300SL Gullwing and I for one am a hater!

This car is pure marmite, the merc enthusiasts among you will love it, but for the rest of us, used to sleek lines and understated perfection I think we are a touch disappointed? Yes we could argue it has retro looks, but I will keep retro for a room in my house, not the £200K monster sitting on my drive that resembles a Mazda. With a blocky, even lego like front, the gullwing doors and a short, square boot it just does not seem to piece together.

Luckily for Mercedes they are selling it as the ‘drivers’ car, all about the experience they tell us. A front-mid-mounted 6.2 litre V-8 winds up 563hp at 6800 rpm and around 480 lb. ft of torque at 4750 rpm. The real wheels are put into motion using the new 7-speed twin-clutch transaxle (AMG Speedshift DCT).

For all of us who will never drive one, and for most of us who have no interest in seeing one I am afraid Mercedes have been quietly out done by there German counterparts over at Audi….
