Early this morning, Mercedes GP unveiled their new F1 car for the 2010 season. The relatively small launch in Valencia, by none other than Michael Schumacher and this seasons team-mate Nico Rosberg marked the start of official testing at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo this morning.

Lotus to rejoin F1 in 2010 – Lotus F1

Lotus will rejoin F1 next season, and compete in their first Grand Prix since 1994. They will join three other new teams; Campos Grand Prix, Manor and US F1.

The FIA now has a full quota of 14 teams (28 cars) for the 2010 season after increasing the size of the grid by choice. The FIA chose Team Lotus ahead of Epsilon Euskadi for the final place.

Schumacher F1 comeback a No-Go

Michael Schumacher has called off his F1 return due to injury. After we broke the Schumacher return story a few weeks ago. Schumacher felt discomfort in his neck following a practice day in a 2007 Ferrari and has since been unable to practice. The injury is thought to have been from a motorbike accident suffered back in February this year.

Michael posted on his website;
“Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello,”

Update: Michael Schumacher comeback called off.

Update: Michael Schumacher will come out of retirement and replace Felipe Massa at the European GP next month on the 21 August 2009. Due to the new ban on in-season testing Schumacher will not be able to drive a 2009 car in the next few weeks.

Felipe Massa Crash Video

Overshadowing today’s excellent win at the Hungarian Grand Prix for Lewis Hamilton was Felipe Massa’s crash yesterday in qualifying. Massa suffered a fractured skull during after a spring from Rubens Barrichello’s car flew up and hit his helmet, this knocked him unconscious and the Brazilian hit a tyre wall at well over a hundred miles per hour. Of course our thoughts go out to Massa and his family.

F1 in Turmoil – More join pull out threat

Renault are the latest team to threaten to pull out of Formula 1 next season following the FIA proposed budget caps. Since Max Mosley announced the 40 million cap for the 2010 season we have already had Ferrari, Toyota and Red Bull declare their intentions to leave F1 if the proposed new rules stand.
